Mikkelsen to star at Logiman Mythical Cars Rally

  • Andreas Mikkelsen the first driver to be named for Logiman Mythical Cars Rally
  • Norwegian ace will be re-united with the car that launched his career
  • More rally stars to follow for the May 24-27 event

Three-time world rally winner Andreas Mikkelsen will compete in the Logiman Mythical Cars Rally driving a Škoda Fabia S2000 – the car that helped launch his career a decade ago.

Mikkelsen won the Intercontinental Rally Challenge title in 2011 driving a Fabia S2000. His defence of that title was ruthlessly comprehensive as he not only retained his IRC crown, but built his experience with Volkswagen Motorsport. The German manufacturer was using Škoda’s Fabia S2000 in its ‘training’ year for the World Rally Championship.

“I have only good memories for this car,” said Andreas. “It was the car that really got me into the world championship, so the chance to be reunited and to drive one again will be really nice. I’m sure it will bring back some nice memories.”

Logiman Mythical Cars Rally is an all-new event based out of Varzi, Lombardy. The aim is to return high-level rallying to the region while reminding fans of some of the machinery from the early 1990s all the way until the end of the World Rally Car era in 2017.

And driving those cars will be some of the sport’s biggest names. Mikkelsen was very happy to take Logiman Mythical Cars Rally advisor Andrea Adamo’s call. The Škoda Fabia S2000 will be supplied by Gino World Rally Car Invest.

“You know that when Andrea is working on something, it’s going to be pretty spectacular,” said Mikkelsen. “For me, this was a free weekend and the chance to come and drive a nice rally car in a place where the fans are so passionate about motorsport is really cool.

“It’s always good to have the chance to meet the fans and this weekend will be special for that. I can imagine there will be a lot of people in the service park and I know the organisers for the event have something very special planned in terms of the festival and the atmosphere. It’s going to be a good one – and the nice thing is that we can all relax a little bit. The pressure won’t be so high like a WRC round, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Adamo is delighted to bring one of the most popular drivers in the world championship.

“I know Andreas a little bit,” he said. “I worked with this guy and I have seen with my own eyes how good he is to make the fans happy. He is a fantastic driver, no question for that and he will really put on a good show for the spectators – but at the same time he’s a great human and somebody we like to share the weekend with.”

Further driver announcements will follow and entries for the Logiman Mythical Cars Rally will open at the end of March.
